Note Taking

Notes that you are taking will help you to remember what you read or heard.  Writing your notes in your own words also helps you remember and understand your notes.

Tips to help you with your note taking:

• Write your notes clearly so that
when you look at them later, you
   will understand

• Experiment with different ways of
taking notes, so you will find
   your own style

• Focus on your note taking
whether you are reading or listing
  to someone talk

• Never use another person's
  notes, because they may leave
  out important details

• Write down all the main facts and
  important supporting facts

A way to practice note taking when you have a book report to do:

• Read the first chapter

• Close the book

• Write in your own words what
  you just read

• Read the next chapter

• Close the book

• Write in your own words what
  you just read

• Do this procedure for the rest of
   the book

• When you finish the book you
will have a summary of the book
   in your own words
